Rescue Crate is a sustainable, cruelty-free, and charitable subscription box that aims to contribute to the local economy, reduce carbon footprint, and give back to non-profits.
Where do you source your products from?
Here at Rescue Crate we work hard to find the best products for our subscription boxes. To us, this means that the products must be locally-sourced and made in the country where the ingredients are sourced from. Further, the products need to be labeled cruelty-free, and should be made sustainable - with as minimal a carbon footprint as possible. We want to support local artists, artisans, farmers, and shops that have this same mission.
Do you ship products from China?
We will not be shipping products from China, or other similar countries that use worker exploitation to sell products for impossibly low prices. You can read more details about this difficult business decision on our blog. Further, the Yulin Dog Meat Festival is absolutely unacceptable to us, and truly sealed our decision not to purchase products made in China. We do like to support small communities that create products to support themselves and their local economy, however.
Why are your boxes more expensive than other subscription boxes?
There are two reasons why Rescue Crate costs a bit more than your average subscription box. First, Rescue Crate sources from local makers. We believe in giving them a fair price for their work, and buying their products at a dollar a piece simply doesn't reflect our values. We do not ship products from countries, such as China, and therefore the per product price point is higher. Second, we donate 100% of our profits, and like to give back as much as possible.
Are you products vegan?
All our products are cruelty-free, and by default, most are vegan. In the case where locally made products are not vegan (honey from sustainable "bee hotels" or local, organic/least-invasive beekeepers), we will have a vegan option for our vegan subscribers.
Are your products allergen-friendly?
We cannot guarantee our products are allergen-free. While we encourage you to send us an e-mail alongside your order to make us aware of any allergens you have, we are not liable or responsible for allergens in anything you purchase.
Are your products cruelty-free?
Yes, every single product in your subscription box is cruelty-free.
Are your products sustainable?
Our products are made by local artists, artisans, or farmers. We keep it local to lower the carbon footprint of the product, and to ensure the quality. The products are made in-house using locally-sourced ingredients in many cases, too. Finally, many of the businesses we source from take care in using eco-friendly packaging. We are supporting the local economy, and ensuring the environmental impact of the product is minimal.
I have an idea for a product you should put in your box - can I send you information?
Yes, please send us any suggestions you have for products you love or create! If you are a local artist or artisan, we'd love to support you. Feel free to send us samples, information, or bulk pricing.
How do I plant my seed paper?
Much like you would with seeds, just bury in soil, water, and watch it grow!
What type of plant will be in my subscription box?
It's typically wild flowers, since they are native to most countries (for shipping purposes).
Are the packing peanuts biodegradable?
Yes, just add water and the packing peanuts are biodegradable.
What is the seed paper made out of?
It is eco-friendly paper made from 100% recycled fibers. We purchased them through weddingfavours.ca, an Ontario-based company.
What type of non-profits do you donate to?
We focus on donating to animal rescue agencies and we give back either financially, or by purchasing products off their wishlists. We also give back to other non-profit organizations through volunteer intiatives or donations. We will always post where your contribution goes on our news and blog page, or on our causes page.
Can I purchase a subscription box as a gift?
Definitely - just ship it right to your intended receiver. You can choose to send them one, or more, months of Rescue Crate.
Where do you ship to?
We ship internationally! Shipping worldwide is free, but keep in mind you may have to pay duties or taxes on your subscription box. Rescue Crate has no control over that.
How do I cancel or change my subscription?
As with most subscription boxes, your service will auto-renew. You can cancel by signing in and canceling your subscription service at any time. If you can't log in, just e-mail us to cancel. Once we respond to confirm, your cancellation is complete. To change your subscripton, simply sign-in and follow ChargeBee's instructions on editing your subscription type.
What payment methods do you use?
We use Stripe to handle all payments and ChargeBee to manage all subscriptions and renewals/cancelations. Stripe is trusted by Apple and other big name companies. No secure information ever reaches our servers. We accept all credit cards, aside from American Express. ChargeBee is used by auto-renewal services, and they receive no private information either. All private information is handled by Stripe and their servers.
